Transformation of Legacy Medical Claims Application

Civil liability of medical entities at the top level

Background

  • Industry
    Insurance
  • Area
    Civil liability of medical entity
  • A team of 10 experts in a changing composition depending on the needs of the project.
Business Analyst, Software Developers, Testers, Architect and client team working together.

HDI entrusted us with the modernization of their core application. This system, responsible for storing sensitive health data related to hospital liability claims, was on the brink of obsolescence. Built on the outdated technology, the application posed significant security risks and was ill-equipped to meet the demands of today’s operational and regulatory standards, including those specific to the German market. The client required a complete overhaul to ensure compliance with German healthcare regulations, protect data integrity, and enhance overall system efficiency.

Challenges

The project included several key challenges that required careful planning and execution:

  • Modernizing outdated technology to meet contemporary standards and German regulatory requirements.
  • Improving communication among internal teams and collaborating with external systems.
  • Addressing intricate dependencies tied to external systems while maintaining compliance with German market needs.

Approach

To transform the application, we developed a structured and methodical strategy.

Requirement Analysis and Understanding the Existing Prototype
We conducted an in-depth analysis of the client’s requirements and examined the existing application. This involved mapping its functionality and assessing the areas needing transformation to align with modern standards.

Technological Transformation
Leveraging modern technologies, our team redesigned the application’s core framework to deliver a highly secure, efficient, and regulation-compliant solution tailored for the German healthcare insurance market.

Collaborative Efforts
A dedicated team of experienced professionals, whose composition changed throughout the project, worked together to ensure a smooth transition. Despite the challenges of integrating external systems, continuous feedback and clearly defined roles were key in maintaining the project’s momentum.

Go-live

The go-live phase focused on two critical processes to ensure the success and longevity of the updated system.

Data Migration
Migrating sensitive health data from the legacy system to the modern platform was executed meticulously. Every effort was made to maintain data integrity and comply with stringent German regulatory standards governing health data storage and protection.

System Stabilization
Following migration, rigorous testing cycles were carried out to identify and resolve any shortcomings. This ensured that the newly developed application was stable, robust, and user-friendly, meeting the high standards expected in the German market.

The testing phase is in full swing, crowning the migration to ensure optimal performance. The team is already underway with integration testing, and the Business Analyst (BA) has completed a comprehensive regression test of the entire system. Meanwhile, the automation tester is finalizing a robust set of tests covering most of this regression, proactively identifying and fixing bugs for a smooth deployment.

Outcome

The modernization project culminated in a state-of-the-art application that met the needs of the German medical insurance sector. The revamped system was fully compliant with German regulations, more secure, highly efficient, and prepared for deployment. With this modernization, the client mitigated security risks. The new application enables the collection of more accurate claims information, provides better analysis of insured risks, and thus better adjusts insurance prices, i.e. higher margins without the risk of losing customers through inflated prices. It strengthened the client’s position in Germany as a trusted provider of civil liability of medical entity services.

The IT system supporting the work of retail outlets is the foundation of our business. The ability to optimize and adapt it to the needs of all entities in the PSA Group is of strategic importance and we consider it a step into the future. This project is a huge challenge: not only for us in terms of organization, but also for our partners – including Hicron – in terms of adapting the system to the needs and business models of PSA. Cooperation with Hicron consultants, taking into account their competences in the field of programming and processes specific to the automotive sector, gave us many reasons to be satisfied.
